Brazil (Harbor.Brasil, dim. [bɾaˈziw]; full name: Federative Republic of Brazil, República Federativa do Brasil) - the largest country South America.

Characteristic

History

The area of today's Brazil was inhabited by semi-nomadic Indian tribes at least 6,000. years before it was discovered by the Portuguese in 1500. Over the next 300 years, Brazil was colonized by Portugal and turned into a profitable enterprise based on slave labor. In 1808, Prince John (later King of Portugal John VI) and his family took refuge in Brazil before Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Portugal. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, separatist tendencies grew and in 1822 Prince Regent Pedro I announced the creation of the independent Empire of Brazil. In 1889 his successor, Pedro II, was deposed and a federal republic was established.

At the end of the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century, over 5 million immigrants from Europe and Asia migrated to Brazil. During this period, the industrialization of the country and expansion into the interior progressed dynamically. Democratic rule was replaced by dictatorships three times: Getúlio Vargas ruled in 1930-1934 and 1937-1945, and in 1964-1985 a number of generals were elected by military junts.

After the left wing and President Lula came to power, Brazil is recovering from a deep economic and social crisis that was the result of enormous public debt. This consumes a significant proportion of its national income. There is an inflow of investments and a significant economic development.
