Kootenay National Park is part of the Mountain Parks Complex Canadian rockies registered at Unesco World Heritage with the National parks of Banff, of Jasper and of Yoho. It spans 1 406 km2 and its altitude varies from 918 m To 3 424 m on top of Deltaform mountain.

The park is open year round, but the best season to visit is from June to September.

Entrance fees

All visitors to the park must pay an entrance fee. An entrance fee is not necessary if you are just crossing the park without stopping. All revenues are used to maintain and improve park facilities. Note that, if you are spending more than four days in the park, it is more beneficial to purchase the annual pass than day passes. Also note that there are additional charges for camping and backcountry use.
