Vedrette di Ries-Aurina nature park (in German Naturpark Rieserferner-Ahrn) is a protected area located in Trentino Alto Adige.
To know
It forms a single district with Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria forming a protected area of 2,457 km² constituting the largest protected area ofEurope.
Geographical notes
It affects the territories of the municipalities of Gais, Perca, Campo Tures, Ahrntal, Predoi is Rasun Anterselva. It is bordered to the north-west by the Valle Aurina valley floor, to the east up to the Stalle pass by the state border, to the south-east by the Anterselva valley and to the south by the Val Pusteria. , waterfalls, and mountains such as the Finestra dei Tauri and the Vedrette di Ries.
Flora and fauna
Flora
The flora is made up of dwarf willow, spruce, larch, stone pine, mountain pine, glutinous primrose.The Rasun bog (Anterselva), which occupies about 20 hectares within the park, is home to the only Italian station of the Malaxis orchid marshy, critically endangered species.
Fauna
The fauna is rich: among the birds there are the golden eagle, the peregrine falcon and the eagle owl, as well as siskins and crossbills, among the mammals, the marmot, the squirrels, the chamois and the fox.
