Phong Nha Caves

Phong Nha-Ke Bang tourism activities are organized by tourist agencies and include:

  • Tour to visit caves and caverns by boat.
  • Ecotourism, to discover the flora and fauna of the Ke Bang forest.
  • Climbing: there are other steep mountains over 1000 m, suitable for rock climbing.

One of the most popular routes is represented by the boat ride up the Chay river inside the forests, until you reach numerous waterfalls and whirlpools before reaching Tro Mong. Inside the park there are 50 meters high waterfalls, the Chai Falls. You can admire Nước Ngang, a horizontal source instead of the usual vertical ones; Ðá Nằm, a stone that blocks a stream. But the most spectacular scene is represented by Nước Trồi, a stream that gushes from the ground. Many of the rivers have long courses, only to disappear underground.

Thanks to the tourist development of the park, about 1000 local inhabitants have found employment in the tourism sector. Phong Nha-Ke Bang Provincial Center for Ecotourism and Culture has 248 boats at its disposal, employing 500 people. For each ship there are 2 men with a salary of VND70,000 per day, which is relatively high compared to the local average. The center, in 2000, launched a program to teach some men the art of photography to use with tourists.
