The park has a wide variety of fauna, such as deer, wild horses, wolves, birds of prey, etc., and flora, as well as pine, yew, chestnut, oak and various medicinal plants, as well as the following 3 endemic plants.

To arrive

The Peneda-Gerês National Park is located in the north of Portugal and covers several districts, such as Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and the city of Braga, so it is possible to reach Gerês by car, motorcycle or public transport. [2]

To get to the Peneda-Gerês National Park from Braga, take the N103 road. Departing from the city of Porto, take the A3 highway and then the N103 highway.

  • Soajo - Village famous for its large number of granaries, built to protect from rodents. The pillory and the chapel are also worth a visit.
  • Sanctuary of Senhora da Peneda - 18th century Sanctuary, inspired by Bom Jesus de Braga. It is composed of the so-called stairway of virtues, the main church and the terreiro of the Evangelists.
  • Sanctuary of São Bento da Porta Aberta - Built in the 19th century, it is famous for the tile panels in the chancel.
  • Albergaria Forest - It is a botanical reserve of great importance, being also notable for the sections of an old Roman military route. Located 2 kilometers south of Portela do Homem, it is home to oak woods representative of the region's original vegetation. It is crossed by the Roman road that connected Braga The astorga.
  • Cascade do Plow - Famous waterfall located on the Arado River, near the village of Ermida.[3]
  • Vilarinho das Furnas - It is a village flooded by the construction of a dam. The big attraction besides the mountain landscape are the ruins of the old flooded village.
