Map of Pasewalk

background

The Pomeranian arable town of Pasewalk dates back to the 11th century and, not far from the border with Brandenburg, was often the bone of contention between the Pomeranian dukes and the margraves of Brandenburg. Fortified after frequent changes of ownership in the 14th century, the massive brick walls and city gates are still among the main attractions of the city, while its strategic importance grew at the same time. Completely destroyed by imperial troops in the Thirty Years' War, Pasewalk received a uniform cityscape from the late 17th / early 18th century, which, however, was largely destroyed towards the end of World War II. Today Pasewalk is a medium-sized center in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the cityscape of which is largely shaped by buildings from the 1950s to the 1970s, from which the churches and the large grain silo protrude.
