Geographical notes
The town of Pisticci has the shape of an "s" and stands on three hills. To get to the entrance of the town it is necessary to take a road called "Le Varre", so nicknamed for the steepness of the two curves: to climb had to put bars between the wheels and proceed little by little.
Background
The first settlements in the territory of Pisticci date back to the 10th century BC, by the Enotri, are testified by various necropolises. Colonized first by the Greeks, then by the Normans, Pisticci was strongly subject to the phenomenon of banditry.
