background
The Spanish gave the place the name Punta Placentia as early as the 17th century. A first settlement was founded here by English Puritans who had to give up their place of residence here again in the course of the armed conflict with Spain. But at the end of the 19th century this place was repopulated by British fishermen and Punta Placentia became Placencia.
