Dangriga is a city in Stann Creek District in Belize.

Dangriga was called Stan Creek Town until the 1980s, when it was renamed Dangriga. This is a term of the Garifuna culture that means something like "sweet". Dangriga is next to the capital of the Stann Creek District also the secret capital of the Garifuna culture in Belize.

getting there

By car:Follow the Hummingbird Highway via the junction to the Southern Highway straight on to the coast.

By bus:With Novelo & James, Dangriga can, among others, from Belize City, Belmopan and Punta Gorda (Belize) are approached.

By plane:With Maya Island Air and Tropic Air, Dangriga can, among others, from Belize City, Placencia and Punta Gorda (Belize) be flown to.

Marie Sharp's factory
  • Gulisi Garifuna Museum. Museum named after one of the first Garifuna settlers in Belieze. Here you can find out everything about the origin and tradition of the culture that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You can also take Garifuna language courses here. To do this, follow Stan Creek Valley Road 1.5 km inland.
  • Drums Of Our Fathers Monument. Emphasizes the importance of drumming as a cultural asset. Created by Stephen Okeke and seen to the south on the George Price Drive / Havana Street roundabout.
  • Marie Sharp's factory. 10 km to the north is the factory in which all the many bottles of the hot spicy sauce are produced, which are not missing on any dining table in Belize.Open: Visits are possible from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
