Founded by Garifuna in 1832, this 5000-inhabitant city is the capital of the Toledo District. Half of the population belongs to the Garifuna culture and until 1992 there was a British base here. The majority of the population actually only speaks of "PG".

By boat
The two agencies Requena's Charter Service and Pichilingo connect PG with Puerto Barrios in Guatemala.
