Pompeii is an ancient city located in the Pompei Scavi district of the city of Pompei in Italy.

Understand

Near : Naples ; Herculaneum

: eruption of mount Mount Vesuvius. The city of around twenty to thirty thousand inhabitants is today one of the greatest ancient sites. The inhabitants living at the time remained in their city believing it was a simple earthquake. But it was in fact the forgotten volcano that awoke. The volcanic ash preserved the city, the port and its fossilized inhabitants. Pompeii is in fact a journey through time. Excavations began in the 18th century, revealing its secrets.

Archaeological areas of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata Cultural(iii) (iv) (v)The eruption of Vesuvius on August 24, AD 79, buried the two flourishing Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as many wealthy houses in the region. Since the middle of the 18th century, they have been gradually brought to light and made accessible to the public. The vast expanse of the commercial city of Pompeii contrasts with the smaller but better preserved remains of the relaxing residential city of Herculaneum, while the stunning murals in Villa Oplontis by Torre Annunziata give a very vivid testimony to the way of life opulent of the wealthiest citizens of the early Roman Empire.80045 Pompei, Metropolitan City of Naples, Italy - panoramio (2) .jpg

Housing

From a camping point of view, Pompeii is perhaps the best strategic place to visit Naples and its bay. There are campsites at the gates of the archaeological site, close to the Circumvesuviana railway line, which leads to Naples. Pompeii is also a modern city, with an important religious sanctuary. The city contains supermarkets.

It is possible not to be able to find accommodation in Naples, and Pompei seems to be a good alternative.
