By train
The passenger rail link between Port Sudan and Khartoum has been interrupted. Only freight trains now run on this line.
By bus
Port Sudan is connected to Khartoum by a paved road of 1 171 km passing through Atbara. This one becomes particularly beautiful around 100 km before arriving on the Red Sea, when it crosses the Red Sea Hills through the Aqaba Pass.
On a boat
A passenger maritime line connects Suakin, to 20 km south of Port Sudan, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Circulate
In Port Sudan you can get around the city via Rickshaws, Taxis and Buses. The Rickshaws seem to be the best option as they only cost an average of 2-5 Sudanese Pounds for journeys up to 15 min and take you exactly to your destination.
To see
- The cornice overlooking the port and is near to ice cream shops and cafes. You can sit and relax in the open areas and enjoy a shisha or have hot drinks from any one of the tea ladies nearby.
- the central souq
- the fish souq (a little over one euro in amjad from the center)
Do
Scuba diving and snorkeling
There are several very beautiful scuba diving sites near Port Sudan: Sha'ab Rumi (less than an hour from the coast) and Sanganeb (less than two hours). Live-aboard boats operate out of the port and can be contacted directly via their websites. As of 2012, there is only one land-based operator, Diveversity [1] (an international business) operating at Sudan Red Sea Resort, located at 30 km north of Port Sudan.
It can get very windy in November / December, so while this is the season for hammerhead sharks, the sea is rough.
- Several boats moored in Port Sudan offer sea trips lasting several days for diving and fishing. They usually book well in advance. Among them :
- the Black baron
- the No Stress, a two-mast with all the comforts, with four cabins. For more information, see the website [2] or the Facebook page (NS Exploring Sudan)
- the Don Questo
You will be able to dive in sites like the wreck of the Blue bell, filled with Japanese cars, or the famous Umbria, an Italian ship sunk during the war loaded with 300,000 shells.

Eat
The nicest place is obviously the corniche. One of the small establishments offering delicious "fatira al mina" (the fatiras of the port, translated into English on the menu as "Corniche Pastries")
We feast on fish in one of the many restaurants facing the sea next to the fish souk.
