Economy

Agricultural landscape in Rybina

The main economic sectors of the county are tourism and agriculture. The largest number of tourists visit the area of the Vistula Spit, which has a wonderful microclimate. In addition, many monuments and landmarks characteristic of the region (flood embankments, arcaded houses) constitute the poviat's undeniable advantage. The most favorable conditions for the development of agriculture are in Żuławy, where the fertile soils of the marsh are an excellent substrate for the cultivation of such plant species as sugar beet, wheat, rape and maize. In terms of employment by sectors, the largest part of all people working in a poviat are employed in the non-market services sector - about 40%, a relatively large proportion of the employed, especially in all poviats of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, are employed in agriculture - about 7%. Similar trends are also noticed only in the Człuchowski and Słupsk poviats. The unemployment rate in the Nowodworski poviat maintains a relatively constant tendency - from 1999 to 2009 it fell by 5.4 percentage points (from 28.8% in 1999 to 23.4% in 2009).
