The Chiba prefecture (千葉 県 Chiba-ken) [1] is located east of the main island of Honshu, JapanThe area is relatively little known, even among the Japanese, but it is nevertheless a great place to get away from Tokyo and explore a slightly off the beaten track Japan.
History
Chiba Prefecture was established on June 15, 1873 with the merger of Kisarazu Prefecture and Inba Prefecture. Historically, the prefecture is made up of three provinces: Awa, Kazusa, and Shimōsa.

- Chiba - The capital of the prefecture with the same name, has some points of interest.
- Ichikawa - a small town just across the Edo River from Tokyo.
- Kashiwa
- Katori - home to the famous Katori-Jinju shrine, the historic streets of Sawara, and the biennial Sawara Matsuri festival.
- Katsuura - former fishing village on the southwestern Pacific Boso ("Sotobo") coast. Famous for its Katsuura Hinamatsuri doll festival and katsuo tuna catch.
- Kisarazu - largest city on the inland Boso ("Uchibo") coast, and connected by the Tokyo Bay Aqualine bridge-tunnel to Kawasaki in Kanagawa.
- Matsudo - northwestern city of Chiba, on the border of the Edo River and Tokyo. Residence of the Tokugawa Akitake, the beloved brother of Japan's last shogun.
- Narita - a small city rich in historical treasures that is often overshadowed by its huge airport.
- Naruto - small town on the Pacific coast, famous for strawberries and surfing.
- Onjuku - small border town Katsuura on the southwest Boso ("Sotobo") coast.
- Tsudanuma - a residential area in western Chiba, largely due to the fact that it is a suburban neighborhood of Tokyo.
- Yachimata - small town next to Chiba City, famous for its peanut production.
