Preveza is a city in the south of the greek province Epirus. It is the capital of the region of the same name. The place itself has around 19,000 inhabitants, in the entire municipality there are around 29,000.

The place is located on a headland between the Ionian Sea and the Amvrakian Gulf. A strait around 600 m wide separates it from the town to the south Action in the province of Aetolia-Acarnania.
The municipality of Preveza includes the place Preveza as well as the places Louros and Zalongo. Of the surrounding places, the most famous is the uninhabited place Nicopolis

A city gate of Nicopolis
- 1 Nicopolis (Νικόπολις).
Only a few kilometers north of Preveza is the ancient city of Nikopolis, translated: City of Victory. Its foundation goes back to the sea battle at Aktium. This took place in the year 31 BC. Opponents of the war were the Roman consul Octavian on the one hand and Marc Antony and Cleopatra on the other. Octavian won the naval battle, after which he became the first Roman emperor. After the victory, the city of Nicopolis was founded opposite Aktium, which was the capital of Epirus in its heyday. The city was founded around 500 AD. destroyed by the Goths, then increasingly rebuilt. After being destroyed by the Bulgarians around 1000 AD. she sank into insignificance. Visible remains are a huge, freely accessible city wall, several early Christian basilicas and an odeon, the latter are fenced and only accessible to a limited extent.
- 2 Pantocrator Castle (Κάστρο Παντοκράτορα). Pantokrator Castle is one of the three castles in Preveza. It is located at the southern end of the old town, near Kyani Akti Beach. It is an impressive castle, but not in good condition but with a very nice view of the sea. It was built in 1807 by the Ottoman occupiers.
- 3 Zalongo Monument. From Mount Zalongo one overlooks the Ionian Sea to Paxos / Antipaxos and Lefkada, the city of Preveza and into the Ambracian Gulf. The ascent over hundreds of steps is quite strenuous, especially in summer. Take water with you.
- 4 Fort St. George (Φρούριο Αγίου Γεωργίου). It is located at the southern end of the old town, near the beach "Kyani Akti". Preveza is in a strategically favorable but exposed position and has therefore been heavily fortified. The Ottoman Turks were the first to fortify the city in the 15th century. Their first fortress was Buca Castle, which was later destroyed. The castles of Agios Andreas and Agios Georgios were built with the material.
- 5 Fort St. Andrew. It is located in the northern part of the city near the port. When it was built two centuries ago, it was still on the beach.
- 6 Bastion of Vrysoula (Bastion of Pefkakia). An Ottoman bastion in the Pefkakia coastal area of Preveza. The bastion of Vrysoula is the remainder of the Preveza moat, which was one of the fortifications built by Ali Pasha in Preveza after 1807. The moat was 4 km long and 8 m wide and ran along the inner coast of the Ambrakian Gulf. It started from the Vrysoula bastion in the north of the city and ended shortly after the fortress of Agios Georgios in the south. The moat was actually a fortress wall with low walls and bastions in some places. Today there is nothing left of the dig (except for the Vrysoula Bastion) as the structure was not well supported and collapsed soon after construction.
- 7 Amvrakikos Wetlands National Park. Wetlands for bird watching. Great variety of migratory and non-migratory birds. The best times of the year are from October to May when the number of animals is greater.
