Prince Albert (Afrikaans Prins Albert) is a city in the province Western Cape in South Africa.

The small town is something like the gateway to the big one Karooif you come from the Garden Route. It lies at the foot of the Swartbergthat separate the small from the large Karoo. Besides fruit and vegetable cultivation (not least olive cultivation), sheep breeding is particularly important from an economic point of view.

In the street

There are connections after Beaufort West via the R407, which joins the N2. This road leads in the other direction Klaarstrom, from where one comes south through the Swartberg Mountains. A more direct way of direction Oudtshoorn is the very scenic Swartberg Pass, although the road is not paved.

The settlement was built in the early / mid-19th century and some older houses (both Cape Dutch and Victorian) and, above all, the church have been preserved. These are the whitewashed houses typical of the Western Cape.
