Limburg Province (in DutchLimburg, in FrenchLimbourg) is a region of the Flanders in Belgium.

Geographical notes
Located west of the Meuse River. It borders the Netherlands (North Brabant is Limburg) to the north and east, and with the Belgian provinces of Liege south, del Flemish Brabant to the west and of Antwerp to the northwest.
Voeren (in French Fourons) constitutes a exclave beyond-Meuse, in the province of Liège in Wallonia.
Limburg is crossed by the Albert Canal and is historically one of the main coal mining areas.
Background
Much of Limburg was included in the bishopric of Liege until 1792, and was part of the Dutch province of Limburg from 1815 to 1839.
Spoken languages
The official language, as in all Flanders, is theDutch, and most people can speak it. The main language, however, is Limburgese. Commonly seen as a Dutch dialect, this regional language has acquired full-fledged language recognition. Dutch and Limburgian are however closely related and largely mutually intelligible. Also widely spoken are the language English and, to a lesser extent, the German. The French has become unpopular.
