Urban centers

Coastal region

  • Almería - Provincial capital, Almería is a lively trading port with a small but interesting historical center dominated by the remains of the Arab citadel (Alcazaba).
  • Adra - A greenhouse vegetable growing center, little frequented by international tourism despite its beaches featuring clear waters awarded with the blue flag.
  • El Ejido - City of about 90,000 inhabitants, mainly devoted to agriculture but with incipient tourism.
  • Garrucha - A thriving port in the early 20th century for the export of agricultural and mineral products mined in the region. Today the only mineral that is exported is gypsum. It also has a marina where 300 pleasure boats can moor
  • Las Negras - A village of a few houses within the Cabo de Gata-Níja natural park and on a stretch of rocky coast dotted with numerous sea caves. Cala San Pedro attracts nudists from all over Europe.
  • Mojácar - An ancient Phoenician and then Carthaginian stopover today inscribed in the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It consists of an upper part in a panoramic position on the coast and a lower part (Mojácar Playa) surrounded by beaches extending for 7 km.
