Geographical notes
It borders to the north-west with the Chile, to the west with the San Juan province, to the south with that of San Luis, with the province of Córdoba to the east and with that of Catamarca North.
The province, essentially mountainous, in the Andean region on the border with Chile, with some peaks reaches altitudes of over 6,000 meters. The highest mountain is the Cerro Bonete volcano which reaches 6,759 meters. Proceeding eastwards, the landscape gradually becomes flatter but the altitude is always high and there are several minor mountain ranges.
When to go
The climate is mainly arid and only in the eastern part.
