Oulu province is a region of the Finland.
To know
Hinged around the city of the same name, center of the technological industry, the province of Oulu has numerous tourist attractions. First in the ranking is the Oulanka National Park, on the border with the Russian republic of Karelia and partly extended also in the Finnish Lapland. One of its most famous trails is that of Karhunkierros (bear trail), which winds for about eighty km. Every year it is visited by about 15,000 tourists. About forty km further south is Ruka (Rukatunturi), a very popular winter sports center even during the summer for the various entertainment possibilities it offers.
Background
The province of Oulu was founded in 1775. After the peace of Hamina part of Lapland was included in the province, and Petsamo was included in 1922. Lapland only became a province in its own right in 1936.
