The Prättigauer Höhenweg leads from the wine-growing village Malans in the Bünder Herrschaft up to the Schesaplanahütte and keeps its height under the rocks of the Schesaplana, Kirchlispitzen and Drusenfluh, then leads over the summit of the Jägglischhorn with a great view over the Prättigau and rises to Madrisa (cable car station for the descent) resp. Monastery down.

getting there

To Landquart can be reached from the Swiss plateau with direct trains of the SBB from Zurich or St. Gallen.

On the road you take the Walensee- (from the region Zurich) or the Rheintalautobahn (from direction St. Gallen / St. Margarethen) and leaves the autobahn A13 at the exit Symbol: ASLandquart. The route starts at 1 Landquart train station, you could alternatively also in Malans, which is reached with the Rhaetian Railway as the first stop on the journey to Prättigau.

Variant of Sassauna: mountain inn

The first stage leads from Landquart with a sharp increase of Malans on the Fadärastein (1178 m), a little down to Seewis and then with further steady gain in altitude to the Schesaplanahütte at 1908 m above sea level

Via the P R car park in Landquart, you cross the Landquart river on the footbridge that is attached to the SBB bridge, and the expressway on Austrasse with an overpass H3 cross and then reach the wine-growing village via dirt roads in the plain of the Rhine Valley Malansover which the mountain peak of the Vilan towers.

Past the 2 Malas RhB station you get to the center of the village, even in the village center there are vineyards everywhere. On the northeastern edge of the village you take the 3 Bovelweg and then climbs in zigzag on a steep footpath over the 4 Fädarastein.

Passing the farmsteads on the Fädara plateau one arrives at 5 Furgga. We continue along the slope of the Mannas Forest Seewis, where the route passes in front of the Seewis Rehabilitation Clinic. From the end of the village an alpine road leads in the direction of the Schesaplanahütte 6 Cani a footpath goes to the left and runs along the Canibach up to 7 Alp Sturfis.

The path climbs up and runs below the rocks of the Tschingel at Sanalada and then climbs over the 8 Alp Altsäss to Schesaplanahütte at 1908 m above sea level on.

Alternatives:

  • Ascent from Malans with the , then over the Maienfelder Alp, the 9 Upper step and about the 10 Fläscher Alp Sarina. In the Alp Sturfis takes you on the official route of the Höhenweg.

  • Route via Fanas with the Eggli cable car: From the mountain station of the Eggli cable car up to 12 Grappalazar and then either over the Sassauna or along its flank on the traversing path and then after 13 Ludera. Follow the path above the Alp 14 Front seat and crosses the Valserbach beforehand. On the gravel road over the Valarsäge then the Schesaplanahütte reached.

From the Schesaplanahütte, the Höhenweg follows the mountain bends as a mountain hiking trail, 16 bi the Seeli the path branches off to the north, the one over the Gamsluggen to 4 Totalphütte of the PES leads to Totalpsee. Also a little further, at 17 Gafalljoch, there is the possibility to cross the mountain range. The roundabouts 5 Lünersee Alpe is located on the Lünersee, which can be reached by cable car.

The path continues on the mountain flank under the Kirchlispitzen, at 18 Chilli hits the route through that 19 Swiss Gateon the Höhenweg. In somewhat flatter terrain, the route continues below the rocks of the Drusenfluh. If you go to the branch of the 20 Way to the Drusator you are not far from the next stage, the Carschinahütte (2229 m above sea level).

St. Antönien

From the Carschinahütte, an easy descent of two and a half hours leads to the Walser village St. Antönien.

In stony terrain you descend into the Sulz area. To the left, to the north, rise the rocks of the Sulzfluz, one of the popular climbing areas of the Rätikon If you like, you can walk a little further in the direction of Grüenfürggli and then to the 1 Patnunsee(1869 m above sea level) descend. The high path leads directly down to Partnun.

Via the Partnunstafel, which can be reached on a road from St. Antönien, the route goes down the valley on a footpath on the left side of the stream St. AntönienRoute 35 of the Walserweg Turns off at Büel in the direction of Gafia and over the Rätschenjoch beyond Rätschenhorn and Saaser Calanda reaches Alp Madrisa, where it reunites with the Prättigauer Höhenweg.

From the entrance to St. Antönien, the route follows the road; in St. Antönien, too, there are various overnight accommodations as a possible stage.

If you don't break off the tour in St. Antönien and take the post bus back to the valley, you can join a beautiful stage with a summit ascent. The distance is 16 km to the mountain station of the Madrisabahn, which runs until 5:00 p.m. in summer; if you walk after Monastery descends, it is 23 km and the hiking time is extended to 8 hours.

In front of the church, the route leaves the main road and heads east along the little road to Ascharina 21 Ascharineralp. The path zigzags steeply up the 250 meters to the Fürggli, on the pass crossing the short detour to the summit of the is worthwhile 22 Jägglischhorn, from where there is a great view of St. Antönien and the upper Prättigau.

The route then descends on the western slope of the Saaser Calanda, one arrives at the alpine settlement of 23 Zastia. With only a slight incline, it continues on the flank of the Bockhorn and Geisshorn and after a somewhat rocky passage you reach the mountain station of the 24 Madrisabahn.

If you still have enough strength in your calves to hike another two and a half hours, you can do up to Monastery descend: The route runs above the cable car station and leads over the Saaser Alp and the 26 Zügenhüttli to 27 Sloppydown.

Past the pent-up 2 Schlappinsee it goes down the valley, at the dam, the creek is crossed and the path runs along the mountain flank to the south. When you come to the access road to Schlappin, you leave it after a bend (unless you want to go to 28 Klosters village descend) and follow the path of the flank to at 29 In da Mure to get to Klosters Platz. On the Musastrasse it goes down into the village, the Talbach is crossed and one arrives at the 30 Klosters-Platz station.

The high path can be walked in the snow-free summer months, the hiking season in the high alpine areas usually does not start until the beginning of June, even then there may still be residual snow. In the Alps, heavy rainfall must always be expected, and shoes suitable for the mountains and rain protection must be taken with you on every mountain tour.
