Map of Landquart

background

Landquart is an important traffic junction, as the road to Prättigau branches off from the traffic axis in the Rhine Valley. Here you can change from the SBB to the Rhaetian Railway, go through Prättigau to Klosters and on to Davos or through the Vereina tunnel into the Lower Engadine.

Politically, Landquart belongs to the municipality of Igis and is the namesake of the Landquart district, whose largest town it is. Landquart only came into being in 1858 when the railway was being built. Since the village of Igis was not directly on the railway line, a railway station was built on the Landquart river. The surrounding industry quickly settled in their vicinity. With the opening of the Landquart-Davos-Bahn (predecessor of the RhB) in 1889, this increased even further, and Landquart quickly grew into an economic center of the region.
