Punta del Este is a seaside resort ofUruguay.
To know
Punta del Este is one of the main tourist centers of Uruguay. It is a town that rises on a peninsula that plunges into the sea, surrounded on one side by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and on the other by the wide estuary of the Río de la Plata.
Geographical notes
It is located in the Maldonado department, just 7 km from the district capital of the same name, with which it now forms a single urban conglomerate, and about 140 km from the country's capital, Montevideo.

- The lighthouse. With its 45 m high, it was built in 1860 by Tomás Libarona, with materials from theEurope. Its original purpose was to allow sailors who sailed the Atlantic Ocean and the Rio de la Plata to orient themselves. It is now possible to climb the 150 steps of its spiral staircase.
