Putrajaya (Yes how: ڤوتراجاي) is the administrative center of Malaysia and is an independent federal territory. It is located 30 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur and is well worth a visit. The city looks like it has been peeled from an egg; no wonder - it's a planned city after all. It is very spacious and nicely laid out. The districts are criss-crossed and surrounded by nice artificial lakes and waterways.

background

The place was named after the country's first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra named and is the new administrative center of Malaysia. Those who visit the place will perceive Putrajaya as a "highly polished ghost town" - hardly any people on the street, occasionally a car and sometimes an almost empty public transport bus. The satellite city, which was only built in 1995, only has 45,000 inhabitants - out of 300,000 originally planned. The city originated in the area Prang Besar which the government acquired from the state of Selangor. Together with the nearby cyber city Cyberjaya it is part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), a Malaysian special economic zone focused on information and communication technology. Last but not least, the Asian economic crisis has slowed down development. Today, whole, newly built and well-maintained apartment blocks are still empty. Quite a few employees prefer to take the train from Kuala Lumpur to work every day.
