Pāvilosta - Pāvilosta

Pavilosta (Latvian Pāvilosta) is a city in western Latvia between Liepāja and Ventspilswhere the Saka in the Baltic Sea flows out. In 2018 the city counted 973 and the administrative district counted Pāvilosta novads 2,801 inhabitants.

The place, which historically lived from the harbor and fishing, is now visited by around 10,000 tourists annually. In 2017 there were 45 guest accommodations and several campsites. Popular leisure activities include sailing, kite surfing, windsurfing, surfing, stand-up paddling, hiking, cycling, spas, wakeboarding, canoeing and other water sports. Pavilosta is one of the most important surfing and recreational spots in Latvia.

By plane

The nearest airports are Liepāja (50 km), Palanga (115 km) and Riga (200 km).

By bus

Pavilosta is connected to Riga, Liepāja and Ventspils by bus lines (Timetables).

In the street

The P111 expressway connects Pāvilosta with Lithuania in the south and with the north of Latvia.

Tourist Attractions

• Part of the original buildings from the 19th century have been preserved.

• A small local museum (Pāvilostas novadpētniecības muzejs) shows the history of the place and the fishing industry as well as the way of life of its inhabitants.
• There is a several kilometers long white sandy beach and north of the village in the direction of Jūrkalne there is a steep coast that is worth seeing.

• The wide beach with fine sand and 3-star water quality invites you to relax and swim.
• There are regular sailing regattas, surfing competitions, tennis and beach soccer tournaments.
• There are sailing and surfing schools as well as a surfer café.
• There is a marina-marina with berths for about 30 sailing and motor boats, excellent with Blue flag (quality mark).
• A national sand castle competition takes place in summer.
• Several music, art and open air festivals take place every year.
• There is a wakeboard facility with a lake swimming pool, tennis courts, a skate park and an ice hockey rink.
• There are providers for hiking, bird and butterfly watching as well as relaxation in saunas and spas.
