Somali region is an eastern region ofEthiopia. It borders to the west with the Oromia region, to the northwest with the Afar region, to the north col Djibouti, to the east with the Somalia and southwest with the Kenya.

The region takes its name from the Somali people who inhabit it.
Geographical notes
The main river of the region is the Uebi Scebeli which flows first to the south and then for a long stretch to the southeast.
Background
The region largely covers the traditional Ogaden territory. It largely corresponds to the former province of Haranghe and incorporates part of the territory of the former province of Bale.It was the scene of a border war between the Ethiopian government and the Ogaden resistance movement in the 1970s. This conflict is one of the least publicized disasters of humanity in modern times. Travelers should not venture into these areas.
