The reserve was established by the order of the Minister of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry of October 9, 1991. It has an area of ​​59.19 ha. It was created to preserve the natural position fir trees at the northern border of the range and numerous historic buildings oaks, pines It is a complex of extremely diverse mixed forest with a large share of fir. In a relatively small area, there are as many as 11 different plant communities, of which 7 are basic, such as: continental oak-hornbeam, alder, alder-ash riparian forest, swamp forest, fresh coniferous forest, mixed pine and oak coniferous forest and dry coniferous forest. The most valuable community in the reserve, however, is the fir forest, decorated with dense fir stands up to 130 years old (considered to be the best preserved in central Poland). Firs here reach a height of 40 m, grow on many levels, are in a very good condition and show exceptional dynamics of development. There are also over 200-year-old oaks and ancient pines.

The forest undergrowth is also very diverse - there are many species of protected plants in it.
