The reserve was established to preserve a fragment of a natural alder forest at the source of the Wolbórka River, and a rare species of butterfly - sphagnum mossas well as the spring area of ​​the Wolbórka River.

A peculiarity of the reserve is the lush vegetation associated with the wetlands of the trough-shaped depression of the spring areas (riparian and alder communities with developed clumps of dead alder root suckers).
The species found in the reserve include: mossy birch, buckthorn, coral viburnum.
Muddy areas of the reserve attract many species of birds, including black stork, bittern, thrush, hoopoe, greenfinch, blackbird, jay, starling, reed, reed, finch and other species. The mammals found in the reserve are: beaver, wild boar, roe deer, elk, badger, fox, brown hare, eastern hedgehog, squirrel and many others.
