To know

Geographical notes

Riesi is a town in the Sicilian hinterland and is located in a barren and hilly area. It does not in itself offer particular tourist attractions.

However, it remains a strategic point for a cheap summer holiday in Sicily, and allows you to visit places that may not be too sponsored, but equally fascinating (see the section "in the surroundings").

Furthermore, in Riesi the nightlife is very lively, especially in summer (the population doubles in this period), and characterized by the frequentation of numerous pubs as well as by the organization of various events.

When to go

For the reasons mentioned in the introduction section, it is clearly advisable to go to the country in the summer when guided tours and tours are also available for the city, even if the winter is not without significant events such as festivals and parties.

Background

Riesi was founded in the 13th century, but its territory was inhabited by various populations: Sicans, Sicilians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans.

Its history is linked to the sulfur mines.
