Rincon de los Sauces is the largest city of the northern part of the argentinian province Neuquén and is located just south of the Río Colorado. The town with a population of around 20,000 was created as a result of oil production and is one of the fastest growing cities in Argentina.

Rincón de los Sauces, although largely uninteresting as a city, is one of the best starting points for the landscape in the border area between the provinces of Mendoza and Neuquén, which is almost undiscovered by tourism. With volcanoes, salt lakes and craters as well as wide steppe landscapes, the region is very attractive for adventure tourists. In addition, some of the largest dinosaur skeletons in South America have been unearthed in the area, but these sites are not yet open to tourists.

The city was founded in 1970 as a base by the YPF oil company. It was a village until the 1990s Rinconas it is known informally, today one of the largest cities in the province of Neuquén.
