Rochefort is a french City in the department Charente-Maritime.
background
The city is located around 15 kilometers inland on the Charente.
Rochefort was designed on the drawing board by Jean-Baptiste Colbert in 1666. It was supposed to serve as a naval base against England. A naval base and a shipyard were built with the city.

By plane
The nearest airports are in La Rochelle (approx. 40 km away) and Bordeaux (approx. 160 km away).
By train
Rochefort is on the railway line from Bordeaux via Saintes and La Rochelle to Nantes. InterCity trains run around 3 times a day, the travel time to Bordeaux is two hours, for example.
There is also a connection to the TGV trains to and from Paris (Gare Montparnasse) with a regional bus that runs several times a day between Rochefort and the train station in Surgères. From there, the TGV train to Paris takes around two and a half hours.
By bus
Long-distance buses run by Flixbus to Rochefort. The buses stop in the north of the city at the hospital, not far from the motorway entrance (as of 2019). There are connections to e.g. Bordeaux, Toulose or Nantes.
In the street
Rochefort is located on the A 387 (E 602) motorway. In the south / Bordeaux you can reach the A 10 at Saintes, it is only about 30 km. It is a little more than 30 km to Saint-Jean-d'Angély, where you can reach the A 10 motorway (European route E 5) heading north / Paris via the D 739 road. The distance to La Rochelle is also around 30 km.

There is a network of seven city bus routes in the city of Rochefort.
