The Ruinaulta (in German: Big demolition), or also Rhine Gorge called, is a fascinating narrow valley with steep walls of more than 300 meters high in the Vorderrhein near Flims in Grisons in the Switzerland. After a huge landslide 10,000 years ago, the Vorderrhein dug this impressive gorge through these masses.

Most of the Rhine Gorge is only accessible on foot, the entire course of the gorge can only be passed by white water boat (and not without an experienced guide!) The Rhaetian Railway runs partly quite deep in the gorge, the road often far above.

climate
Even if the Rhine at Ilanz flows at an altitude of only about 700 m, the region has a mountain climate, snow and ice from winter remain in the gorge for a long time even in spring. In summer / autumn, especially after violent thunderstorms in the Alps, the Rhine level can rise sharply.

Sturdy footwear; Beware of level rises in the Vorderrhein during thunderstorms in the catchment area (which are not necessarily recognized in advance from the gorge bottom), the boat tour through the Ruinaulta in the white water II-IV should only be made with a guide or under the guidance of very experienced paddlers.
