Rodby is a danish Place on the island Lolland.

Rødby is very close to Germany. Only the Baltic Sea separates Rødby and the German one Puttgarden. On the Danish side is Nykøbing Falster the closest city.

The village has been under the name since about 1200 Ruthby known. It has been a ferry station since the Middle Ages. In 1682 Rødby was granted town charter and eight years later as a patch again under commercial law.

In 1912 the Rødbyhavn was completed and connected to the railway network. The former Rødbyfjord was diked in 1930 and drained until 1966. In 1988 the Lalandia holiday center was opened.

By plane

There are no airports in Rødby. The nearest airport is Copenhagen-Kastrup (160 km away; approx. 1½ hours by car or at least 2:40 hours by bus and train).

By train

Rødby can be reached by train from Copenhagen and Hamburg reach out. Eurocity trains run four times a day from Hamburg via the “Vogelfluglinie”. Rødby is on the E47 European route from / to Copenhagen. For the 160 km you need about 1:45 hours driving time with favorable traffic conditions. From Puttgarden /Fehmarn you can take the car with you on the ferry.
