Salou is a coastal city in the Tarragona Province (Catalonia/Spain), it is located about 15 km from the provincial capital Tarragona away.

The city's economy is mainly based on tourism. The tourist offer is noticeably tailored to English-speaking visitors. Many gastronomic establishments have English names or offer typical English food and drinks. Nearby is the PortAventura theme park.

history

Used as a port by the Greeks and Romans, it appears in the historical record during an important event: The flight of James I from Aragon in 1229. He conquered the Balearic Islands from Salou and finally founded the Kingdom of Mallorca . In 1286 Alfons III is also. from Aragon started from Salou to conquer Menorca. Later Salou became a base for pirates. In 1530, the Archbishop of Tarragona had a defensive structure called Torre Vella built in Salou. Llevant beach

The city has four larger beaches and a few smaller bays. The longest beach in town with a length of 1.2 km is the 1 Platja de Llevant, it leads along the promenade Passage Jaume I. Other beaches are the 2 Platja de Ponent, the 3 Platja dels Capellans, 4 Platja Llarga and the 5 Cala Crancs. Salou has 34 blue flag beaches.

PortAventura Resort

The 6 PortAventura is a constantly growing amusement park on the Costa Daurada. The resort has luxurious 4-star rooms, a theme park (Costa Caribe Aquatic Park) and a conference center. The main attractions of the theme park are the Dragon Khan, a large B&M mega-looper, Furius Baco, one of the fastest roller coasters in Europe, and the Hurricane Condor, a large tower that simulates free fall from a height of 100 m. In 2012, a new roller coaster, the Shambhala: Expedición al Himalaya, opened right next to the Dragon Kahn. The park also has a large multi-media show called FiestaAventura. Fireworks, fountains and parades are shown every night between late June and late August. Ferrari Land with the highest and fastest accelerator and a Ferrari Hotel will open in 2017.

Salou is home to the Lumine Golf Club (formerly known as PortAventura golf). There are three places: north, south and central. The northern and central ones were designed by Greg Norman and the southern one by the "Green Project". The facilities consist of two club houses, a beach club, a Lumine restaurant, a Hoyo 19 restaurant, shops, rental services and a golf school. In the future, six housing developments will be built in the vicinity of the golf course, as well as two 5-star hotels, a sports facility and an international school.
