San Sebastián (in Basque: Donostia; officially: Donostia / San Sebastián) is the capital of the province of Guipúzcoa, part of the region of Basque country.
To know
Nicknamed the "Pearl of the Cantabrian", it experienced its heyday at the end of the 19th century, thanks to the regent queen Maria Cristina who got into the habit of going there on vacation. Its vast bay (Bahia de la Concha), framed by two rocky elevations (Monte Urgull and Monte Igueldo), is one of the most famous of the Spain.
The city is also a renowned academic center and an important economic center. It is known for its International Film Festival and the Jazz Festival.
In 2016 it was the European Capital of Culture.

The nearest international airport is that of Bilbao (102 km west) where flights from Italian cities are operated by Vueling airlines. There is a direct connection between this airport and the city of San Sebastian

Events and parties
- International Film Festival (San Sebastián International Film Festival). Every year in mid-September, San Sebastian hosts one of the most important film festivals in the world. Created in 1953, this festival has been taking place for some years at the Kursaal, a modernist building designed by Rafael Moneo. Gala and opening evenings take place at the Victoria Eugenia Theater.
