Santa Fe - a city founded in the 16th century, the capital of the state New Mexico and at the same time its most popular place among tourists, famous for its rich culture, art, music and good food. It is not only the oldest state capital in USA, but also the highest one - over 2000 m above sea level. It is a place where we will surely meet crowds of tourists wandering the streets admiring the beautiful architecture, and in the summer months trying to find a place on the city beach.

Information

History

Santa Fe was the capital Spain, later Mexico. But the story of the place begins long before the arrival of the Spaniards: it is believed to have been a Pueblo-Indians village and had been abandoned long before the arrival of the conquistadors. In 1912, when the state was created New Mexico, Santa Fe became its capital.

At the beginning of the 20th century, this place attracted many artists, such as Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz. The arrival of Igor Stravinsky and the construction of the Santa Fe Opera further strengthened the city's position on the American art scene.

Many people flocked to Santa Fe to take advantage of the local resorts and spas.

On the one hand, the city is one of the oldest villages States, and many residents may look for their roots back several centuries, on the other hand, many rich immigrants have flowed here in the last 30 years. If the rich come, they can afford a lot, and if they can afford a lot, you can earn a lot - such reasoning in a straight line led to a significant increase in real estate prices and taxes. This creates constant tension between old and new residents.

Geography

Climate

The city's location in the Sangre de Cristo mountains means that we are dealing with a mild continental climate with four seasons.

Winters are pleasant - the maximum temperature reaches even 5 ° C. It often feels warmer than the thermometer shows because of the very sunny weather. Nothing concrete can be said about snow: sometimes winter can pass without even a snowflake, other times it can fall asleep to the waist. However, even when it rains a bit, the snow is about to melt due to the high temperatures and winters are muddy rather than snowy.

Spring is moderate temperatures and no rainfall. This is probably the worst time to visit the city due to high winds.

Early summer (June, beginning of July) is hot and dry, temperatures can exceed 30 ° C. Later in summer it is more pleasant - monsoon rains cool the afternoons, but you have to be prepared to get wet.

Monsoons usually end in the first days of September. The first frost usually falls in October. Wdedy also begins to hold snow in the mountains.
