The Scale (Polish: Szeszupa) is a nearly 300 km long tributary of the Memel in the northeast Poland in the voivodeship Podlaskie, in Lithuania and in Russia (Oblast Kaliningrad). It is very popular with canoeists and anglers. In the border area between Lithuania and Russia, the river forms the EU external border and the border of the Schengen area, with Russia in the west and the EU in the east.

Run

The scale rises on the Suwałki Lake District between Suwałki and Sejny in the landscape park of Suwalszczyzna north of the Wigry National Park and flows in an eastern arc through Lithuania and Russia to the Memel. It forms the border between Russia and Lithuania, one of the oldest borders in Europe, which formed the border between Poland-Lithuania and the Teutonic Order as early as the 15th century.
