Swans (Danish: Svans or Svansø) is a peninsula between the Schlei estuary and the Eckernförde Bay in Schleswig-Holstein.

Schwansen is characterized by agriculture. There is hardly a place with more than 2,000 inhabitants and no city. There are numerous manors with mansions worth seeing, most of which are privately managed. For example, the descendants of the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Mecklenburg live in Schwansen.
The coast to Eckernförde Bay consists continuously of beaches, partly of lonely cliffs, which are worth a long walk. The seaside resort of Damp has a strong tourist development 70s charm on.
The banks of the Schlei, the youngest and most northerly nature park in Germany, often overgrown with reeds, with its bays, noores and forests offer long hours of leisure to those seeking peace and quiet, but it is also a popular sailing and fishing area.
The peninsula belonged to the Danish Duchy of Schleswig (South Jutland) until the German-Danish War in 1864. In the Middle Ages, Schwansen was administratively part of the Riesebyharde (Danish Risbyherred) taken. getting there
Regional express trains on the Kiel – Flensburg line stop every hour in Eckernförde and Rieseby. The journey from Kiel takes 25–35 minutes; from Flensburg 35–45 minutes. From Hamburg you need a total of 1:45 to 2 hours with a change in Kiel.
The A7 motorway runs west past Schwansen (junctions Rendsburg / Büdelsdorf, Owschlag, Schleswig / Jagel or Schleswig / Schuby). The federal highways B76 (Kiel – Eckernförde – Schleswig) and B203 (Rendsburg – Eckernförde – Damp – Kappeln) lead across the peninsula itself.
The Baltic Sea Cycle Route leads through Schwansen.
mobility
There is no motorway and, except in Rieseby and Eckernförde, no train station. Bicycle tours are recommended in the gently rolling hills. The runs on both banks of the Schlei Viking Friesian Way, on the Baltic coast of Schwansen runs the Baltic Sea Cycle Route.

- 1 Louisenlund Castle. Early classical summer residence of the Danish governor in Schleswig-Holstein, built in 1772-76, named after his wife Louise, a daughter of the Danish king Friedrich V .; used today as an elite boarding high school.Open: not open to the public.
