Swans - Schwansen

Swans (Danish: Svans or Svansø) is a peninsula between the Schlei estuary and the Eckernförde Bay in Schleswig-Holstein.

Schwansen is characterized by agriculture. There is hardly a place with more than 2,000 inhabitants and no city. There are numerous manors with mansions worth seeing, most of which are privately managed. For example, the descendants of the dukes of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg and Mecklenburg live in Schwansen.

The coast to Eckernförde Bay consists continuously of beaches, partly of lonely cliffs, which are worth a long walk. The seaside resort of Damp has a strong tourist development 70s charm on.

The A7 motorway runs west past Schwansen (junctions Rendsburg / Büdelsdorf, Owschlag, Schleswig / Jagel or Schleswig / Schuby). The federal highways B76 (Kiel – Eckernförde – Schleswig) and B203 (Rendsburg – Eckernförde – Damp – Kappeln) lead across the peninsula itself.

The Baltic Sea Cycle Route leads through Schwansen.

There is no motorway and, except in Rieseby and Eckernförde, no train station. Bicycle tours are recommended in the gently rolling hills. The runs on both banks of the Schlei Viking Friesian Way, on the Baltic coast of Schwansen runs the Baltic Sea Cycle Route.
