The Black Forest Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof is one of the most famous attractions in the Middle Black Forest, it is in the range of the Kinzigtals between Hausach and Gutach (Black Forest Railway).

The open-air museum was founded in 1963 by Prof. Herman Schilli founded. The aim of this museum is to explain life in the Black Forest in the last few centuries as multifaceted as possible. The was used as the basis of the museum Vogtsbauernhofwhich has had its place on this site since 1650 and which was probably the property of a valley governor. The museum was supplemented by further farms and their outbuildings. They had their original locations elsewhere and were transported here over the years and rebuilt as true to the original as possible.

The Black Forest Railway goes right past the museum, the stop is right in front of the museum entrance 1 Gutach open-air museum. Only the trains of the Ortenau S-Bahn stop. If you come from Offenburg with the Black Forest Railway, you have to get off in Hausach and change to the S-Bahn or the TGO bus.

By bus

The buses of the Ortenau line TGO also stop directly at the museum.

In the street

The B33 runs parallel to the railway east of the Gutach, there is a large, well-signposted parking lot.

Opening times daily 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, in August until 7:00 pm during the season from April to October

Despite the winter break, the Christmas market is open for a few days (usually on the weekend of the Third Advent).

You move around the site on foot.

The paths between the houses can also be used with wheelchairs. Since Black Forest houses are built into the slope, the paths around the houses are connected with inclines, some of which are overcome with steps. These paths are only limited, and some are not wheelchair accessible at all. There is no barrier-free access within the houses.

  • 1 Vogtsbauernhof: The farm has stood at this point in the Gutach Valley since around 1570, it is an example of that Gutacher house type. Mainly wooden construction, ground floor and walling of the kitchen are made of stone. On the slope side is a high entrance to the roof space.

  • 2 Hippenseppenhof The farm was built near Furtwangen in 1599, it's an example of a Heidenhausas was customary in the central and southern Black Forest. The farm was moved to Gutach in 1966. Typically the hipped roof with the roof surfaces pulled down far.

  • 3 Hotzenwaldhaus The house is a replica of a courtyard near Großherrischwand from 1756. It stands alongside the slope, the driveway is on the back across the roof. The hipped roof is thatched. The farm has been part of the museum since 1980

  • 4 Lorenzenhof built around 1540 in the Kinzig valley near Oberwolfach. This type of Kinzig valley house has storage rooms for wine and fruit. The farm has been in the museum since 1972
  • 5 Schauinslandhaus Replica of a courtyard built in 1680 near Hofsgrund. It stands alongside the slope and has a cross entrance. The entrance is on the narrow side, the roof is covered with shingles.

  • 6 Falkenhof House type des Delicate house, built in 1737 in Buchenbach-Wagensteig. The courtyard is used by the museum as a stable for large cattle.
Dairy farming; Light sources then and now
  • 7 Day laborer's house The residents of this house worked as forest workers, weavers or day laborers. The meager life of these people is reflected in the facility.
  • 8 Personal treasure house When a farmer gave up his farm in younger hands, he moved into a personal treasure house. It was contractually regulated how his successor had to pay for the personal belongings (food, clothing).
