Sharuna (Arabic:شارونة‎, Sharuna, French Charouna) is a city in Middle Egypt in the far north of the governorate Minyā east of the Nile.

You usually travel north by car or taxi on the bank of the Nile in the direction of Gebel eṭ-Ṭeīr. To get to the archaeological site, continue south from Shārūna. The last kilometer has to be covered on dirt roads, which requires at least some driving skills.

Tourist Attractions

The archaeological site 1 el-Kōm el-Aḥmar Sawāris(28 ° 34 '10 "N.30 ° 51 ′ 50 ″ E), Arabic:الكوم الأحمر سوارس‎, al-Kōm / al-Hardly al-aḥmar Sawāris, is located about 3 km south of the city of Shārūna. Here is the necropolis of ancient Hut-nesut from the 3rd to 4th ancient Egyptian dynasties and a temple for Ptolemy I Soter I. The site is still the subject of archaeological research and is therefore not accessible.

The most important rock grave, that of the Pepianch, is blocked by a large pile of stones and is not accessible.
