El-Minya (also el-Menya, el-Minja, Arabic:المنيا‎, al-Minyā, tooمنيا الفولي‎, Minyāt al-Fūlī) is a city in Middle Egypt. It is the capital of the eponymous Governorates and describes himself as the "bride of Upper Egypt",عروس الصعيد‎, ʿArūs aṣ-Ṣaʿīd. About 236,000 people live in it,[1] and she owns a university. mobility

City map of el-Minyā

After the attacks in the 1990s, there was hardly any tourism in Central Egypt. The situation has eased significantly, even if there are still small restrictions. According to more recent reports, however, the tourist police and the secret service increasingly accompany you, sometimes quite intensively. In the hotels you should also inform the reception the evening before which activities are planned for the next day.

Note: Individual tourists must expect to be shadowed around the clock by the tourist police, sometimes also by the secret service (open appearance). This requires a scedule the day before with a plan and the exact time. The hotels approved for foreign tourists are guarded by the police. If you want to go out unannounced, you will be held back until an officer on duty has been found. Some hotels arrange a limited exit option by means of an exemption (waiver of liability).

Arrival and departure for certain means of transport only with a police escort (not for rental cars).

By car

El-Minyā has a bridge over the Nile, so that all destinations on both sides of the river can be reached from here. Plan your trip so that you only get goals on if possible one Head for the shore side. Otherwise there is only a car ferry in Mallawi.

The taxi fees within the city are low and amount to around LE 3 to LE 5.

The cost of taxi (so-called Company cars) amount to Tell el-āAmārna LE 400 - 500, up to Asyūṭ around LE 600 (as of 3/2018). A taxi from the street is cheaper.
