The seven wonders of Portugal (in Portuguese: Sete Maravilhas de Portugal) is a list of cultural wonders located in Portugal. The choice of the Seven Wonders of Portugal is an initiative supported by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and organized by a consortium composed of Y & R Brands SA is Realizar SA, which sought to elect the seven most relevant monuments of the Portuguese architectural heritage.
The choice fell on 793 national monuments classified byInstituto Português do Património Arquitectónico (IPPAR), after an initial selection made by experts, a list of 77 monuments was selected. Then a new selection was made by Conselho de Notáveis of the University of Évora, a Council composed of eminent personalities from different backgrounds, which named the 21 finalist monuments.
From 7 December 2006 and for six months, the vote to elect the seven favorite Portuguese monuments was made available via the Internet, telephone and text, among others.
The results of the vote were announced on 7 July 2007 at Stadium of Light of Lisbon, as well as the results of the universal competition of the Seven New Wonders of the World.
