Seyðisfjörður is a small village located at the end of the Eastfjords.
Geographical notes
The town of Seyðisfjörður is surrounded on three sides by mountains, and many waterfalls can be found around the village.
Background
The first inhabitants of Seyðisfjörður arrived in the area in 1848; it was about fishermen Norwegians. The typical wooden houses, for which the village is known, were mostly built by them.
During the Second World War Seyðisfjörður was used as an Anglo-American military base.

By plane
The nearest airport is that of Egilsstaðir about 30 minutes. It has regular flights to the capital. There are several buses a day to Seyðisfjörður connecting with flights which also stop in the center of Egilsstaðir.
By car
The settlement is 27 km away by panoramic road from Egilsstaðir.
Seyðisfjörður is connected by sea weekly with a ferry from the Smyril Line with Hirtshals/Hanstholm in Denmark (duration 3/4 days), e Tórshavn in Faroe Islands (duration 1/2 days).
The ferry leaves every Tuesday at 20:00 during the low season (April-June and August-October), and on Thursdays at 10:00 during the high season (June-August). A round trip to Denmark will cost around € 280/590 by embarking the car or € 120/250 per passenger, depending on the season, excluding the supplement for a cabin or bed. Remember to book in advance, as prices vary a lot.
By bus
From the center of Egilsstaðir there are one or two additional departures per day during the summer (in addition to those from the airport). Egilsstaðir is also a great hub for several bus lines connecting Seyðisfjörður to other cities in Iceland. The buses are operated by Ferðaþjónusta Austurlands (tel .: 354 472 1515) which does not have its own website, but that of themunicipal administration keeps an up-to-date calendar.

- Trekking. There are numerous walks that can be done in the surroundings, which can last from half an hour up to a few days.

- ATM (100 meters in front of the ferry terminal). Counter open 24 hours a day, located inside the bank.
