Background
It is the birthplace of Tamerlane who founded the Timurir dynasty which then chose the city of Samarkand as its capital.

The city develops in a north-south direction around the park where the main monuments of the city are located.

By car
The most used means is the collective taxi from Samarkand which in an hour and a half journey allows you to reach the city.

Considering the small size of the city and the concentration of the monuments in a small area, it is possible to visit them on foot in a short time.

Almost all of the monuments are placed very close to each other in a large tree-lined square which forms the central and historic core of the city.
- 1 Ak Saray. It is an imposing palace built by Tamerlane at the end of the fourteenth century and today reduced to ruin. However, the complex decorations with Kufic characters that fill the walls are clearly visible. The visit is free unless you want to go up to the terrace from where you can enjoy an excellent view of the city. This building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

- 2 Dorut Tilavat memorial complex.
For a fee. It is a 14th century religious complex in a Timurid style consisting of the mosque, the minaret and the two mausoleums.
- 3 Kok-Gumbaz Mosque. This mosque was built in 1437 by Ulugh Beg in honor of his father Shah Rukh.
- 4 Shaikh Shamsiddin Kukol Mausoleum. It is the mausoleum of Tamerlane's spiritual guide and his father, a figure of great importance for the royal family.
- 5 Gumbazi Saidon Mausoleum. Mausoleum completed by Ulugh Beg to have his descendants bury there.
- 6 Ancient bazaar (Choursu).
- 7 Tamerlane statue. In his hometown, a statue dedicated to Tamerlane could not be missing. It stands out in front of the Ak Sarai ruins facing south.

The city is a crossing point for the city of Termiz on the border withAfghanistan. It is an hour and a half by car Samarkand, while towards the west it is possible to reach Bukhara.
