Shimabara is a city in the Nagasaki Prefecture on the island Kyushu .

The city of Shimabara is located on the peninsula of the same name. In the east it borders the Shimabara Sea, which belongs to the Ariake Sea, and in the west lies the volcanic mountains of the Ounces, that for Unzen Amakusa National Park Heard its volcanic activity is manifested in numerous hot springs.

- 1 Shimabara Castle. Shimabara-jō. The castle was completed in 1625. During the Shimabara uprising In 1638/39 the rebels besieged the castle, but were unable to conquer it. Most of the castle was demolished in the 19th century. However, only the surrounding walls have been preserved in the original; the tower was rebuilt in 1964.
