Siaya is a city in the region of Central nyanza to Kenya and, although not the most populous locality, the capital of the eponymous county.

Reserve of 41,42 km² created in september 2010 in an ecosystem of more than 200 km² formed by the Yala swamp and the Kanyaboli lake. The predominant vegetation is papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) but we also find in large quantities the sensitive (Mimosa pudica) whose thigmonasty is always attractive and a matter of surprise for children and adults alike. Also present, senna (Senna alexandrina) and the endemic aloe of Lake Victoria (Aloe lolwensis) both provided with leaves with laxative properties. Or the majestic Christmas candle holder (Leonotis nepetifolia) whose leaves have a relaxing power and antipyretic as well as the Egyptian white lotus (Nymphaea lotus) and various species of mallets (Typha). If the marshy areas are the ideal place to observe the sitatunga (Tragelaphus spekii), the whole of the national reserve is a favorable paradise for many endemic birds such as the shimmering gonolek of the papyri (Laniarius mufumbiri), the canary of Koli (Crithagra koliensis), the papyrus cisticola (Cisticola carruthersi) as well as the aquatic chloropete (Calamonastides gracilirostris), classified byIUCN in the "vulnerable" category. Other bird species such as the magnificent blue-collared bee-eater (Merops variegatus), the white-winged warbler (Bradypterus carpalis), the sagittarius messenger (Sagittarius serpentarius) as well as different types of cranes (Gruidae) and ardéidae (Ardeidae). Among the fish fauna of the lake, which are allowed to be fished, we can mention several species ofOreochromis like the tilapiasOreochromis niloticus and Oreochromis leucostictus as well as endemics Oreochromis variabilis and Oreochromis esculentus, the latter two being classified by theIUCN in the “critically endangered” category. (last update March 2018)
