Simon's Town is a small city in the metropolitan area Cape Town (metropolitan area).

The city Simon's Town, named after the former governor Simon van der Stel is located on the east side of the Cape Peninsula False Bay. In the city there is a base of the South African Navy. Simon's Town is a tourist destination mainly because of a colony of African penguins.

On the coast of Simon's Town there are some sheltered stretches of beach, which are also called because of the large rounded boulders lying there Boulders are designated. Here live in close proximity to human settlements African penguins, the colony includes around 3000 animals. The birds are approx. 40 cm tall, weigh 2-4 kg, have got used to people and cannot be disturbed by visitors from a short distance. The entrances can be reached from the main road either via the Bellevue Road or about the Seaforth Road. The coastline belongs to the Table Mountain National Park, Admission for adults 40 rand (as of 2011). Most of the breeding colonies are on Foxy Beach, they are easily accessible via wooden walkways. Local residents are divided about these penguins. On the one hand they are disturbed by the numerous visitors, on the other hand these animals are also called Jackass penguins because their calls sound similar to those of the donkey.

There are more colonies of these animals on the opposite side of the False Bay at Betty's Bay and around 200 km north of Cape Town Lamberts Bay.
