History

Skomlin has been known since 1210, when it was transferred to the Cistercian monastery from nearby Łubnice. The village was founded on an oval plan, along the road leading from Wieluń to Silesia. Later it was noble property, incl. Zawadzkich, Bartochowski and Bąkowski.

Historical monuments

In Skomlin, two valuable wooden monuments from the 18th century have survived to this day. One of them is the church of st. Filip and Jakub from 1740, and the second is the manor granary, built in 1777.

Wooden church from the 18th century

Church of st. Filip and Jakub from 1740, three-nave, with an apparent barrel vault. In terms of interior fittings, it is one of the most interesting wooden baroque buildings in Poland. A set of altars and a rococo pulpit. On the walls and the vault there is a polychrome from 1776 depicting the seven sacraments, painted by K. Więckowski.
At the cemetery there is a brick chapel of St. Barbara from the 18th century, rebuilt in 1916. On the wall of the chapel - a plaque in memory of 2nd Lt. Bąkowski of the 9th Regiment of Lesser Poland Uhlans, who died in the battle at Żółtaniece on August 19, 1920.

A wooden backyard granary

It was built in 1777 and we owe it to Władysław Bartochowski. The granary fulfills its original function to this day.
The building is a two-story building with an additional high attic, a carcass construction with trestles strengthening it. The building has a gable roof, shingled.
The interior of the building is one large space on each floor, with two rows of wooden poles strengthening the structure. The building is an example of very good carpentry work from over 200 years ago. The granary, still used as a warehouse, can hold 720 tons of grain. Due to the defects in the roof and the unsatisfactory technical condition of the building, it is currently only partially used for storage purposes.

Sightseeing: The granary is accessible from the outside without restrictions, thanks to the small windows providing ventilation of the building, it is possible to look inside.
