Sneem is a place on the Atlantic Kenmare Bay on the peninsula Iveragh in the County Kerry in the southwest the republic Ireland.

background

  • Sneem (Irish: An tSnaidhm) located 30 km west of Kenmare, the next most important small town, and 50 km southwest of Killarney; however, you should plan at least an hour for the drive there.
  • The article includes the area of the R 568 (the road to Killarney) up to Moll's Gap, as well as in the area of the N 70 between Parknasilla and Derreenauliff (inclusive).
  • The village is separated into a northern and a southern part by the stream "Sneem River", each with a main square as an optical center. There is a bottleneck at the bridge.

getting there

By plane

The nearest airport is Kerry County Airport, approx. 70 km

By bus

In the street

Sneem is on the N 70 Ring of Kerry. Of Killarney From Molls Gap the R 568 leads to Sneem. There is also a narrow road Killorgin through the mountains over Glencar, but less than 4 m wide.

By boat

The nearest ferry port is in Cork, approx. 120 km

For pleasure boats: The village of Sneem is further away from the Atlantic Ocean Bay Kenmare Bay. The estuary of the river Sneem (Sneem Pier) is too shallow for many seaworthy pleasure craft. There are better mooring options around 3 km away (Oysterbed Pier). There are other mooring options at Derreenauliff (Gleece Pier).

By bicycle

The bicycle variant of the Ring of Kerry still leads over large sections of the N 70.

mobility

You can't do without a car because the town center is small and all the sights are further away. The streets are narrow and, by German standards, miserable. But once you've got used to it, it's fun. Every now and then you have to fold in the exterior mirror when there is oncoming traffic.
