Strada in Chianti is a fraction of the municipality of Greve in Chianti in the province of Florence.
To know
It is the closest country to Florence of the entire municipality Grevigiano, from which it is about 12 km. It has developed a lot in recent years, with a strong demographic increase, due precisely to its proximity to the provincial capital.
When to go
It enjoys a favorable climate, even in the hottest months, compared to the city center.
Background
Street is named after via strata, that is paved. Which according to some historians it was the route of the Claudian age (about 200 AD) of the Via Cassia. Until the end of the nineteenth century it was possible to see a part of this paving in one of the three courtyards of Lombard origin.
How to orient yourself
The Stradese territory includes the following villages: Martellina, Mezzano, Presura, Santa Cristina and Sezzate all located a few kilometers from the town.
How to get
By plane
- 1 Florence-Peretola Airport (Amerigo Vespucci Airport, IATA: FLR). About 27 km away, it is certainly the most convenient airport for those who have to take this means to get closer. Once you leave the airport, you can take a taxi to go to your destination or to the most convenient and cheapest public transport. There are also scooter and car rental services.
By car
The A1 motorway is the main artery that connects Greve to the rest ofItaly. Since there is no dedicated exit, for those coming from the south it is preferable to exit at "Incisa Valdarno" continuing in the direction Figline Valdarno and from there follow signs for Greve in Chianti. Those coming from the north, on the other hand, should go out at "Firenze sud" and then take the SR 222 (Chiantigiana) towards Greve in Chianti.
On the train
There are no railway stations in the municipality of Greve In Chianti. The closest railway stations are those of: Engraved in Val D'arno, Figline Valdarno, Rovezzano, Vicchio is San Piero a Sieve. Once you arrive at these stations you need to take other means of transport (taxi or bus) to get to your destination.
From the station of Florence Santa Maria Novella it is possible to take a bus at the opposite terminus.
By bus
The most convenient way to reach Greve is by interurban buses of the acvbus.

- 1 Church of San Cristoforo. In the church dedicated to San Cristoforo there is a beautiful wooden crucifix (in olive trees) decorated by Neri di Bicci (around 1440). The church, after the recent restorations (1990) which brought to light the original apse under the current altar, dates back to before the year 1000.
- It seems that the Lombards, then present in the town with some hospitals (in the current village), had the church built on an Etruscan fortress.
Events and parties
- Strada in Fiera (Country fair).
Third week of September. The Stradese territory is divided into five districts: Borgo, Martellina, Palagione, Poggerino and Ruota Cappellina. In the past, horse races were organized during the week of the fair, where the five districts challenged each other. The tradition had, however, gradually faded away until it disappeared. For some years the town has come back to life with Strada in Fiera. During the week the districts challenge each other in the carousel: a series of games of various kinds (from the trump tournament, to table football, to five-a-side football passing through dance and volleyball). Races start on Monday and end on Saturday. On Sunday there is the final parade, where all the districts try to excel, through the streets of the town, through the most beautiful floats. At the end of which the winning district of the Cencio dell'Orcio is proclaimed. During the parade there is always a market with several food stands.
